My editorial consulting business is PC Editorial Services. I include this information on The Purple Crayon for people who would like to hire me. Please read both this and my Rates and services page before contacting me (look at the bottom of this page for the contact link).
At present, I am committed to a long-term, full-time job, and have to schedule work well in advance, given the limited amount of time available for small projects. I am also teaching revision tutorials with Eileen Robinson. For more information, please visit Kid's Book Revisions.
If you can wait for a slot in my schedule, please contact me with a description of your project, and I'll let you know if I can help, and how long it might be before I can start.
I work in two distinct areas:
Children's books: My main experience is as a children's book editor. As a freelancer, I have also worked as an editorial consultant for corporate and individual clients, in trade and educational publishing, evaluating, critiqueing, editing, rewriting, line-editing, fact-checking, or proofreading manuscripts and galleys. I have posted information about books I've edited, an information sheet about my rates and services, some testimonials, and a copy of my resume so that you can get to know me before contacting me.
If you are looking for an editor for a book for adults, I'm not your man, but you might consider Michael Garrett.
Conferences: I regularly travel across the country to give speeches (some of which have developed into materials on this site), lead workshops, and do manuscript critiques. In the past several years I have been to conferences in Alabama/Georgia, California, Minnesota, New England, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas, among other places.
I am particularly interested in conferences because I would like to promote the latest edition of my The C.I Guide to Publishing Children's Books. I have created four new workshops, covering a range of topics and levels of experience. Please email me if you think I might be a useful addition to your conference faculty, and I will be happy to provide information about those workshops.
For more information, and to inquire about my interest in a project, please feel free to contact me.
